1-2-1 Talking and Peer Support for Men in Somerset

Are you NOT FEELING YOUR BEST?  Need support getting back on track?  Or perhaps you've lost PURPOSE OR DIRECTION?
Men, particularly in middle-age, are often overlooked in modern times.  The very real worries, fears, concerns and stresses we experience are sometimes not taken as seriously as they should be, despite the fact that we as a group continue to contribute to the highest suicide risk in the UK.
There are many factors - DEPRESSION, GRIEF, HEALTH CONCERNS, RELATIONSHIP BREAKDOWNS, MORTALITY CRISIS, REDUNDANCY OR PROFESSIONAL REGRESSION, LOSS OF PURPOSE OR IDENTITY - but not having someone to talk to should never be one of them.
Whether you just want someone to listen for an hour or two, help you talk things through, or you want to get to work on your IDEAL SELF with a STRUCTURED SUPPORT JOURNEY for a more goal-oriented objective, get in touch for your FREE ONLINE FACE-TO-FACE CONSULTATION.
Self-referred clients only.

MATT VIDLER has many years of peer support and mentoring experience, working with young people and adults experiencing a variety of crises and life issues.

He is qualified to NFCE CACHE Level 3 in Counselling Skills and Level 4 certified in Advanced Counselling Skills, Life Coaching and Mindfulness for Stress.  He also holds a Level 5 Diploma in Social Policy and Criminology.  Matt is fully therapy insured and DBS certified, and continuously updating his qualifications and certification.

Who is the service aimed at?

Matt works with men of all ages and backgrounds, over the age of 18, with a particular focus on talking therapy, addressing midlife, loneliness, and issues around direction and purpose.  The service is not aimed at men who require specialized counselling, such as CBT or psychotherapy, but rather those who are simply overwhelmed or struggling with the pressures of life and expectation that men face.

What fields is Matt qualified in?

Because Matt is formally qualified up to Level 3 in Counselling Skills, he can only offer listening/talking and alternative therapies, life coaching and peer support, both practical and emotional, and not formal counselling.  For this reason, he is able to offer a holistic service which may recommend more tailored and flexible therapeutic methods than formal counselling coping strategies.  He most closely aligns with the person-centred humanistic approach, and is unable to provide CBT, addiction or trauma therapy, or psychoanalytical service; if you require any of these, Matt will recommend your referral to another counsellor.

If you are in any doubt about Matt's suitability to help you, please feel free to get in touch.

Where do the sessions take place?

Matt much prefers meeting face-to-face in person, at his private and comfortable practice in Cowan House, Ellenborough Park, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.  However, for the initial appraisal, and if you cannot attend in person, sessions can be conducted online.

How much does Matt charge for a session?

A 50-minute session costs £40, whether in-person or online, though the initial 20-minute consultation is free.  However, if you choose to book for the 6-session, 6-step program in advance, you will only be charged for 5 sessions (£200 instead of £240).

How many sessions do I need to attend?

There is no minimum and no maximum; you can come along for a single session, if you just want someone to talk to in the moment, or book blocks of sessions in advance.  If you don't feel ready to give up, we can keep going for as long as is needed.

For enrolment onto the 6-step support plan, it is necessary to pay for all 6 sessions (for the price of 5) in advance, following your free online consultation.

Is the service discreet and confidential?

Matt is strongly bound by ethical practice, and fully committed to the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Equality Act 2010.  Your attendance at sessions is discreet and completely confidential.  Any personal information, including any session notes, are stored safely and securely, and only retained for as long as is necessary.

What if I still need support after the planned sessions?

You will never be simply left alone to cope after the planned sessions have concluded; Matt will always discuss with you, in plenty of time, next steps following support, which may include a plan for you to take forward.  If you need further support, Matt will discuss continuing the service, or referral to a more appropriate alternative.

How can I get started?

Use the form above to book your free appraisal, and Matt will be in touch soon.  At the appraisal, he will talk through your needs or concerns, and suggest how he feels you should proceed.  If Matt's service is not suitable, or you don't find each other a good fit, he may suggest more appropriately-qualified alternatives.
